Sender ID profile

What a sender ID profile is and what it is for

A sender ID profile is a named set of rules that says which sender type is to be used in which country. You keep the setup in one place: in a campaign or in the API you then pick a single profile and BulkGate fills in the matching sender type according to the recipient's country.

It is most useful for international campaigns, but it pays off even when you send to a single country — you change the sender type in the Portal and nothing has to change in your integration.

How does it work

Let's say we have an "ABC" profile with four countries:

country sender type
United Kingdom text sender ID "ABC Company"
France text sender ID "ABC"
Germany short code
Ireland system number

When you send a campaign to the UK, Germany and Ireland with this profile, every message is delivered with the sender set for that country. If the recipients also include numbers from countries the profile does not cover, those messages use the country's default sender — usually the system number.

Note

In a campaign, the Sender Type field only offers profiles — in the User profiles group — that have at least one of the selected countries set up.

Where to find your profiles

  1. Sign in to the BulkGate Portal
  2. Click SMS & Viber messaging in the left menu
  3. Click Sender ID profiles

The screen has two parts:

  • My profiles — your own profiles. Click a profile to open its settings. The profile card lists the countries it covers; a profile that is not set up yet shows Click to set up instead.
  • Generic profiles — System number, Short code, Text sender ID and Own number. They are always available, serve as an overview and cannot be edited.

How to create a sender ID profile and add a country

  1. On the Sender ID profiles screen, click Add new profile in the upper right corner
  2. Fill in the Profile name field and click Create
  3. Click the newly created profile
  4. In the Select country step, choose a country and click Next
  5. In the Select profile sender step, pick a sender type from the list, fill in its value and click Next
  6. In the Profile summary step, check the setup and click Save

You add a country to an existing profile the same way from step 3 — one profile can hold any number of countries, each with a different sender type. You can assign a different sender type to the same country in another profile.

For every sender type in the list you can see whether it supports Unicode and two-way SMS. With an own number, two-way SMS is always available.

Note

A text sender ID can have 1–11 characters (letters, digits, -, ., _ and space) and must contain at least one letter. An own number can only be chosen from your verified numbers — if you have none, add one with the Add number button right in the wizard.

Tip

Sender types that require registration in the given country carry the Registration tag in the list, cheaper routes the economy tag. Some routes have a note in red under their name with the conditions of that country — read it before you save the setup.

Important

Only the sender types available for the selected country in the price list are offered. Some territories (Antarctica, North Korea, the Vatican or the Pitcairn Islands, for example) cannot be added to a profile.

How to change the sender type for a country

  1. Open the profile and click the country you want to change in the Country list
  2. The country setup loads into the wizard — pick another sender type and click Next
  3. Check the summary and click Save
Tip

If you have an unfinished setup for another country and click a country in the list, the Portal asks Load config? and warns that your actual settings will be overridden with new one. Confirming with Load discards the unfinished setup.

How to delete a country from a profile

  1. Open the profile and find the country you want to remove in the Country list
  2. Click the bin icon (Delete)
  3. Confirm the Delete country config? dialog with the Delete button

How to rename a profile

  1. Open the profile and click the gear icon (More actions) in the upper right corner
  2. Select Rename
  3. Enter the new Name and click Rename

How to delete a profile

  1. Open the profile and click the gear icon (More actions) in the upper right corner
  2. Select Delete
  3. Confirm the Do you wish to delete the profile? dialog with the Delete button

Deleting removes the whole profile together with the country configurations it held.

How to use a profile

In an SMS campaign, pick the profile in the Sender Type field — your profiles are in the User profiles group.

In the API, send gProfile as sender_id and the profile ID as sender_id_value; you will find the ID in the profile header next to its name. For details see the Advanced API and HTTP Simple API documentation.
