Sending restrictions (geoblocking)
Sending restrictions hold the list of countries a message may leave your account for. The portal puts it as “Have control over where you can send your messages.” Geoblocking, in other words: a safeguard both against a mistake in an import and against misuse of the account — whoever gets hold of your credentials will get no further than your allowed countries.
Where to set the restriction
- Open Settings with the gear icon ⚙️ in the top bar next to
Log out. - Click Sending restrictions.
- Pick a mode and the countries that go with it.
- Save with the
Savebutton.
The dashboard keeps the same setting at hand in the Sending restrictions card — the Edit button opens the very same panel. When the restriction is off, the dashboard points it out.
Three modes
| mode | what it means |
|---|---|
Turn off |
messages may go to every country |
Allow sending |
only the countries you pick get through |
Prohibit sending |
every country gets through except the ones you pick |
Below the switch you see a running summary — the allowed and denied rows list either the countries, or None, All, or All others. Click the count of hidden countries to open the full list.
In both Allow sending and Prohibit sending you have to pick at least one country — without one the setting will not save. Switching the mode also clears the current selection, so choose the mode first and the countries after.
What happens to a message outside the allowed countries
The check runs on every message, whether you send it from the portal, through the API, or from a module. A message to a prohibited country is not sent and ends with the error Sending to the recipient's country is disabled — disabled_country in the API. Nothing is charged for it.
What decides is the country the recipient's phone number belongs to, not their language or where the contact came from. How the country is determined for a number is covered by Phone number processing.
The restriction deals with countries only. Individual recipients who do not want your messages are held by the blacklist and opt-out.
Where the initial setting comes from
The countries you pick during registration in the About your business questionnaire are set as the only allowed ones. Once the account is approved, messages will only go to those — see Creating an account. If you picked no country there, no restriction was set and it stays Turn off.
You can change the list any time using the steps above. If you are preparing a campaign to a new country, check the restriction before you launch it.
When the setting cannot be changed
If the panel says Read only and there is a padlock next to the setting, the restriction was set by our support and you cannot change it yourself. Write to us and we will agree what to do with it — the route is described in Message was not delivered, in the part about contacting support.
Support can also restrict sending separately for promotional and transactional messages. In your own settings you set a single restriction that applies to both.
Thank you for your feedback.
